Religious Education
Religious Education in our parish supports and assists parents in sowing the seeds of the Gospel in the hearts and minds of their children so that they may develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Together with parents and catechist, students grow in the knowledge of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and are encouraged to participate in the Sunday liturgy. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm at St. Peter's School and 7:00-8:00pm at St. Mary's Center. There is a $15.00 Religious Education fee with a ceiling of $30.00 per family. This helps to cover the cost of workbooks for each child plus materials used throughout the year. We are fortunate that we can keep the cost low compared to other parishes in our deanery. It is such a blessing that we have wonderful catechists who volunteer their time as they share and witness their personal faith commitment with the children.
Some activities in which our Religious Education students participate are: Recitation of the rosary in the church and chapel led by our 6th grade students; Thanksgiving food collection for distribution to the Food Pantry in Upper Sandusky and Forest; Advent Friends project to aid the Red Cross of Wyandot County; Eucharistic Exposition and Vocations gathering at the Church with presentations by religious from our diocese; Mission Fair with money to the Holy Childhood Association; Way of the Cross led by our 6th grade students with participation of all classes; and encouragement to participate in Penance Services and Holy Day Masses with students' families.
Our Religious Education program uses the Religion Course of Study of the Diocese of Toledo which is correlated with the RCL Faith First Legacy Edition which is the series chosen by our catechetical leader and catechists. The Course of Study has the goal of teaching Catholic Social Teaching, Christian Life Choices, Church and Church History, Doctrine, Morality, Sacraments, Scripture, Worship and Prayer.
